Children are their parents, not the State’s. Parental responsibility and the family must be supported.

Vote Independent Charlton for motion to CWAC requiring the Education Authority:

1. To consult parents as soon as their child considers transing and taking a name other than their birth sex.

Cllr Pardoe will not say that parents should be consulted on this! Labour and Conservatives fudge parental responsibility and want the State to decide for the child. After what’s happened at the Tavistock Clinic, prudence requires that parents be involved as early as possible in this issue with their child. Where a child fears the reaction of their parents, the duty of the State must be to investigate and err on the side of the parent.

2. Include the scientific distinction between sex and gender in sex education and ban sex education providers who disallow public review of their material.

Labour and Conservatives continue to be unable to say that sex, scientifically, is binary – genes xx, xy on the chromosome. Gender, the cultural and environmental manifestation of sex, has a range of possibilities. Adolescence is a time of physiological change which can lead to confusion. The State helps children experience this change by emphasising binary sex.
